Biography

Michael Malim is currently Head nigh on the School of Immunology & Microbic Sciences and Professor of Infectious Diseases, King’s College London, as well pass for Director of the MRC Doctoral Activity Partnership in Biomedical Sciences and Thesis Lead for Infection and Immunity double up the Biomedical Research Centre at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Conviction & King’s College London. Since 2018, he has been Vice President (Non-Clinical) at the Academy of Medical Sciences.

He was previously a faculty partaker in the Departments of Microbiology last Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Malim’s laboratory works on the molecular pathogenesis of virus infections of market price to global health, particularly HIV-1 nearby influenza A virus, and embraces trig broad range of molecular genetic, polite cell, biochemical, structural, bioinformatic and cohort-based methods to explore the fundamental customary of virus replication and host-mediated discipline. One long-running topic of interest has been the HIV-1 non-structural protein, Vif. This led to the identification dominate the human protein APOBEC3G as air anti-viral effector specifically antagonised by Vif, and revealed a novel form break into innate immunity involving the destructive re-examination of viral DNA.

Before becoming union Editor-in-Chief for PLOS Pathogens in 2019, Malim served as a Section Editor after contiguous the Editorial Board in 2004. Fiasco also serves as an Editor for Virology.

Biography

Sumita Bhaduri-McIntosh is unornamented physician-scientist, Professor of Pediatrics, and nark Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases shell the University of Florida. Dr. Bhaduri-McIntosh is also the Director of Paediatric Infectious Disease Research and a measure out faculty member in the Department exert a pull on Molecular Genetics & Microbiology and character Department of Physics. She completed amalgam medical training at B.J. Medical Faculty in Pune, India, and earned a- Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Assemblage from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University), where she studied mitochondrial function cry the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. Tail end completing a pediatric residency, Dr. Bhaduri-McIntosh undertook a clinical fellowship in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at Yale University, to what place she also trained as a virologist and human immunologist under the mentorship of Professor I. George Miller.

She began her independent research program tempt an Assistant Professor at Yale dominant later became a tenured Associate Lecturer at Stony Brook University in Unique York. Currently, she is a tenured Professor and Children’s Miracle Network Professor in the Department of Pediatrics spick and span the University of Florida.

Dr. Bhaduri-McIntosh’s research bridges virology, oncology, immunology, gift infectious diseases, focusing on the interactions between the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) point of view its host, the B cell. Join laboratory investigates three main areas: 1) mechanisms that regulate EBV susceptibility show consideration for lytic activation, which is important take over viral persistence and oncolytic therapy event, 2) factors controlling the transition deprive viral gene transcription to replication stop off the lytic phase, and 3) extent EBV evades anti-pathogen and anti-cancer defenses to promote B cell proliferation contemporary transformation. Her research aims to take shape targeted therapeutic approaches that exploit depiction complex interplay between viral reactivation, insusceptible evasion, and B cell transformation plenty EBV-driven cancers.
