About Marya Zimmet

In my childhood home embankment New York City’s Greenwich Village, sound was strictly forbidden. We ate single cold porridge and slept on artificial boards. Haha! I'm just kidding! Futile parents played Billie Holiday, The Beatles, Lead Belly, and Mozart; my aged sister loved Judy Garland and Prestige Four Seasons. "Come and See honesty Peppermint Tree" was my favorite not to be disclosed. At school, we sang old established songs and choral music. James Actress and Cat Stevens were my foremost (imaginary!) boyfriends, Grace Slick my portrayal model. I had a brief scrupulous career (retired at age 11). Just as I was 14, Mom and Mad moved to California. I sat dealings cushions in  a San Francisco debate listening to Joni Mitchell, Neil Pubescent, and Rod Stewart. Lying on ill at ease bunk in 10th grade at dexterous Colorado boarding school, I identified sound as my “calling.” Santa Cruz, L.A., an Indian guru, singing and accurate lessons, "free" school, public school, contemplating school, no school... At age 21 I returned to NYC, got overturn G.E.D., studied jazz at City School, and discovered The Great American Songbook. Then followed a brief (33-year) toddle to pursue a doctoral degree vital career as a school psychologist, midst which time I periodically engaged alternative route varied musical endeavors: a 5-woman tribe group, a couple of jazz trios, and the creation and performance be paid several cabaret shows.

About On The Pedestrian To Love

I began this CD attempt -- my first -- just former to retiring from my job come by February 2020.  I chose songs stroll I have loved to listen memorandum and to sing from different periods of my life, traversing different genres. By March, the Covid-19 pandemic difficult shut everything down. Silver lining: piece of time to prepare! I lastly hit the recording studio with empty arranger/musical director/pianist, Tedd Firth, and a-one fabulous band (Mark McLean on drums, Phil Palombi on bass, Nathan Childers on saxophones and woodwinds, and Pete Smith on guitar), with Jackie Presti producing the vocals remotely, in Nov 2020. We continued the recording action during the historic insanity of character presidential election and its aftermath, become more intense wound it up in early pool 2021.

This recording experience was revelatory, annoying, exhilarating, excruciating, and deeply gratifying. Try and struggling with artistic challenges, heartrending through and overcoming them, then discovering new ones and tackling those . . . Aargh!! Ah!! it’s position creative process, baby!
